Ann Matthews, Director of Kids’ Space, Sarah Turner, Administrative Assistant CASA and Kathryn Eaton, Director of CASA , tie blue ribbons on our tree.

April was Child Abuse Prevention Month. Together, CASA & Kids’ Space purchased a tree to honor the abused and neglected children of our counties. The tree was planted in Palmer Park and was decorated with “Blue Ribbons” signifying Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Blue Ribbon trees were also decorated by Tony Goetz School, Harris Jobe School, Muskogee Church of Christ, Citizens’s Security Bank & Trust Co., Jackson Hewitt Tax Ser-vices, Leigh Ann Matthews with McDonald’s Restaurant and Wright,Stout & Wilburn.
The blue ribbons represent chil-dren who have been either abused or neglected in Muskogee or Wag-oner Counties during 2010. The “Blue Ribbon” campaign brings attention to local efforts to intervene on behalf of all children involved in abuse and neglect and to raise awareness of child abuse prevention.
On any given day, more than 150 abused and neglected children are living in foster homes in Muskogee and Wagoner counties. These children are waiting for a safe and permanent home.
The children served by these CASA Volunteers are in the court system because of abuse and neglect. The single purpose of the volunteers is to protect and guide the child through the court system to help them find a safe, nurturing and permanent home.
Through their court appointments, advocates research the backgrounds of the cases, interview all parties and involved service providers, monitor progress towards the case goals, and make recommendations to the courts.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate program is a non-profit organization. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States. We welcome volunteers from all cultures, professions, ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Join other CASAs and be a part of a group of dedicated men and women who are making a difference in abused and neglected children’s lives.
A child is waiting for your help!
