Meet CASA’s Volunteer of the Year

On June 12th the Board of Directors of CASA for Children (Court Appointed Special Advocate) honored the CASA Advocates with an Appreciation Luncheon and Awards Ceremony donated by Johnny V’s Ristorante.  Anita Weibel was named “Volunteer of the Year”.  While serving as an active volunteer for 10 years, Anita has served 20 children and donated over 1200 hours and hundreds of miles.  In her work as a CASA, she has driven all over the county and even to Arkansas.  Anita rarely misses court and always puts together her own written reports.  Anita participates in in-service training and has assisted in new volunteer training by serving on a volunteer panel as well as serving a term as the Volunteer Representative on the Board of Directors.  Anita was presented with a gift basket.  Congratulations Anita!

Charlotte Crank was also recognized for having served 10 years as a CASA.  Charlotte has served 20 children during that time.  Those advocates who have served for 5 years are Helen Bumgarner, Barbara Clinkenbeard and Don Coy.  Helen has served 11 children and been on the Board of Directors as the Volunteer Representative.  Barbara has served 7 children and Don has served 8 children during their time with CASA.
A big thank you goes to all our advocates who serve tirelessly for the children of Muskogee and Wagoner Counties.

The children served by these CASA Volunteers are in the court system because of abuse and neglect.  The single purpose of the volunteers is to protect and guide the child through the court system to help them find a safe, nurturing and permanent home.
Through their court appointments, advocates research the backgrounds of the cases, interview all parties and involved service providers, monitor progress towards the case goals, and make recommendations to the courts.

The Court Appointed Special Advocate program is a non-profit organization.  Volunteers must be 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States.  We welcome volunteers from all cultures, professions, ethnic and educational backgrounds.

Join other CASAs and be a part of a group of dedicated men and women who are making a difference in abused and neglected children’s lives.
A child is waiting for your help!

Our next CASA training is August 10th through August 20th.   If you are interested in learning more about CASA or would like to request an application, contact our office at 686-8199 or email us at casaforchildren@sbcglobal.net.
